Live in Love
I have been on Etsy for a couple of years now and every time that I get an alert that someone is contacting me about an order, I still get really excited. These two had some really awesome photos they sent. They seemed pretty edgy: mohawks, piercings, so I wanted to do a little something more fun. Here is the process:
and the end result:
I love to see people’s reactions when I give them a work of art, but Etsy is different. You wait to see if people review your shop or not. I always forget to look, but I got a really cool review from this buyer:
“The most beautiful painting ever! My partner was stoked! After seeing our photos, I was contacted by cityowlstudios to ask if she could make our painting uniquely edgy like our photos (we have mohawks, tattoos, and piercings) and the result was amaaazinngggg!! I highly recommend cityowlstudios. I was also kinda nervous that because we are a lesbian couple I would get an “I’m sorry but I can’t do this.. message back.” But NOPE!! NOTHING BUT LOVE and accommodation! Thank you so much again!
I guess that I never even stopped to think that they were two women and it never crossed my mind to not do it for them. It made me really think about the state of our society. Even though it never crossed my mind to deny service to them, I have had the same thoughts about the color of my skin. Thinking that people would judge me before knowing me or deny me something because of it.
When did we turn into a society that we have to fear hate? Nick and I are Christians and we stand strong in our faith. We also live on God’s word and love our neighbors. I remember becoming close with a student who was a lesbian and was shunned by her family because of it. I got to really know her for her. We would talk about school, life, the future. I remember during one of our conversations, it came up that I was a Christian. I saw her face completely change. She said to me, “But Christians hate me.” I will never forget the look on her face or the pain that she was feeling. I then vowed to live in love and to show love to others.
